Well the teeth are extracted, we're back home and Lizzie looks as if someone's taken to her head with a baseball bat.
As told to, we arrived at the hospital at 6am. The we sat in the waiting room until 8am. She went in and they told us it'd be two hours so we went to the shops. I was meant to be looking for a black cardigan/wrap to wear to a wedding but got caught up in the art and craft shop so didn't get anything. I had ten minutes left so had to decide between a trip to David Jones or a trip to the chemist for eyedrops. Since I was wearing sunglasses inside the shopping centre to cut the glare on my eyes, I chose the chemist.
Then back to see Lizzie. When we walked in the room it didn't even look like her. Her head was a different shape. She has this attractive ice pack to wear that wraps under her jaw and up the sides of her head then ties on top of her head. I've advised her to wear it as much as possible. The swelling will peak in three days.
She even has steroid cream to put on her lips because they force the mouth open so wide it splits.
Off to deliver a bowl of ice cream. Cold mush only for 2 or 3 days.
Is there a collective noun for a group of teenage girls? Because I saw one the other day - a group of teenage girls that is, at the orthodontist. Matilda has put up with her apparently ghastly teeth for a few years, but has suddenly decided it's time to fix them. And after spending some time in the orthodontist waiting room, I'd like to suggest to any young teenage boys out there looking for a girlfriend, that this is the place to be. When I was at school there was one poor kid at with braces (metal mouth, traintracks etc etc) who was picked on mercilessly, now braces are almost a fashion accessory. It doesn't sound like it will be pleasant for Matilda and it certainly won't be pleasant for my bank balance. First she has to have the two bottom wisdom teeth and two top teeth pulled out, which will involve a few hours in hospital under a general. This is because her wisdom teeth are not near the surface yet. This involves a trip to the dentist who refers you to the surgeon dentist then back to the orthodontist. Lucky we get the "family" rate as Jessie had braces a few years ago. That way it will only cost us $4600. Whew thats a relief. Of course that doesn't include the dentist and the surgeon. You know all these girls will get married one day and have children and their husbands will wonder why the kids have such terrible teeth considering the wives teeth are perfect.
