What's the first exhibit you visit at the zoo?
I personally find the zoo to be the most depressing place you could ever visit. I know they've come a long way but they're still bloody awful places so I try to avoid them.
However I did once have young children, and its pretty hard to get away with never taking them to the zoo. I refused to take them to the circus so I gave in on the zoo.
And it only cost an arm and a half a leg for the admission fee. Hopefully they're spending it all on more improvements.
So I did like the elephants. I'd like to get in there and touch one, feel the texture.
hey, I'll probably be able to in Thailand - they're probably all over the place being made to make tourists happy
And I like the meerkats - they're always too much.
This one obviously wasn't sitting in an armchair, but he was just asking to be put into one.
Are you prepared in case of a natural disaster? What do your plan and preparations include?
lol, what a strange question! Are we expecting one then?
I'm obsessive compulsive enough thanks. If I start worrying about potential natural disasters I'll be a nervous wreck.
Although, we are going to Thailand at christmas time, and I must admit that the thought has crossed my mind as I run on the treadmill each morning, that'll I'll be right to run a long way up into the mountains if a tsunami hits. Maybe even carrying one small child on my back. Which rules out my kids because they're all much bigger than me. Which is good because I won't have to do the Sophies Choice thing.
Remember when everyone was freaking out about the Y2K thing? I said to Daz, maybe we should stock up on food. And when the year 2000 clicked over with no problems I looked in the laundry and we had stocked one bottle of water and a 4 pack of baked beans. It was a pretty piss poor effort really. We'd have lasted a morning.
I think to be prepared for a natural disaster the best thing you can do is forget about supplies and just stock up on weapons. Lots of guns and ammo. Thats your best bet, because you're going to have to kill a lot of crazy desperate people to get to the supermarket and the bottle shop. Maybe even zombies. I'm not sure what sort of disaster we're talking about. Oh yes, there they are, I wasn't looking properly. No zombies, so that makes it a bit easier.
And nail polish. Stock up on nail polish. Because new nail polish always makes you feel better.
My new bottles arrived in the mail the other day.
I'm wearing blue at the moment. But I'm wishing I'd picked Calypso.
If you could only drink one beverage for the rest of your life (not including water), which one would you choose?
Well thats easy.
Wine. White. Sem/Sav/Blanc preferably. Wolf Blass is good. With ice. Although if Jem and I are out we go with the Pinot.
And in fact wine already is just about the one beverage I drink besides water. I have one coffee in the morning. Water through the day, then wine at night. I'm thinking of giving up the coffee though. I don't really enjoy it, I think I just have it out of habit.
I haven't had any wine since last Friday though. Because on Saturday I read that drinking a glass of wine is equivalent to eating a slice of bread. So I figure I ate about a loaf of bread on Friday night. I wish I could go back and never have read that. Because I find it disturbing. I don't even like bread. But I think I've just about put it far enough to the back of my mind that I'll be able to ignore it tonight.
And I wish they'd all stop harping on about how alcohol gives you breast cancer and mouth cancer and dementia and cellulite and wrinkles, because it ruins the whole drinking experience for me. Not enough to stop mind you.
I'm always surprised when people say they don't drink. Its all my parents fault I think. I seem to recall they were drinkers when I was growing up. Now they have drinks at lunch and before dinner. And my father has a wine fridge in his bathroom. He says you never know when you might get caught out.
One of Lloyds friends dropped around the other night and they shared a bottle of wine. Thats another thing. How they say on the label there are 7.bla glasses of wine in a bottle! They are obviously not using my wine glass.
Anyway Lloyd and Lauren were going to a fancy dress party and the theme was red. Laurens was in black with red red lipstick.
I did feel a little stalkerish taking photos of Laurens glass after she was gone. I was still finding lipstick on it a week later.
Will you be giving out candy to trick or treaters this year? If so, what goodies can the ghosts and goblins expect to bring home?
LOL - This is Australia man
if any little bastard comes to my door looking for tricks or treats I shall say to them
WTF - This isn't America baby, we don't do that shit here
all I'll be able to offer them is a Sao with vegemite on it
There's a chill in the air. Show us your favorite coat.
Submitted by jacolily.Well I only have one coat. And its definitely my favourite.
I love it.
But where I live, I rarely get a chance to wear it. Only on the coldest darkest days of winter do I get to wear it. Here you rarely need more than a t shirt and a cardigan. So I wear it every cahnce I get. And I just realised that I've been wearing it for years. I used to wear it on friday nights to football when Lloyd played in the under 14's, and I wore it this year when he played in the reserve grade, aged 19. I must say I was the best dressed mother at the football.
I wear it when we go to the pub, or when we go for an early morning walk, or to a school assembly and I've run hom from the club in the pouring rain in it.
And I don't think I've ever washed it.
So here is my favourite (and only) coat, with me in it, with one of my favourite young ladies, a friend of Lizzies .
Which do you prefer? City life or country living?
I'm easy on this one. I love both. I'm a chameleon. In fact, just call me Leonard Zelig.
But I can tell you one thing about country people in this town.
They have no idea how to use a roundabout.
We moved to this town from Sydney. And when we moved here there wasn't even a set of traffic lights in town. But we did finally get a set. And things seemed to go smoothly. Actually, I think they arrived in town at about the same time as Mc Donalds.
But then they put in a roundabout.
And approaching it drives me INSANE!! Talk about road rage.
You have to keep in mind that some people who live in in this town have never been out of this town.
I have awesome roundabout skills. I overtake people on roundabouts. But most people here approach the roundabout with a lot of stopping and starting and the flow thats supposed to come with a roundabout just doesn't seem to happen.
Sigh.
Disappointing because I love it when traffic flows like it should.
I must use as an example my friend Jem. (Because she's away this weekend and won't read this). Once we were going around a roundabout and I said
you have to put your blinker on when you do that
no, you don't, you don't have to use your blinker when its a small roundabout
I rest my case.
What's your favorite thing about fall?
My favourite thing about autumn is that its a long way away. Because I'm not a fan of the cooler weather.
Here, we are one month into Spring and if its anything to go by we are in for a hot dry summer.
We have been drought declared where I live for years. And lately it has been so hot, dry, dusty and windy that this is currently what I look like.
The other day my lips were so dry I couldn't open my mouth because they kept cracking in the corners. I think every person in this town keeps a tube of chap stick or carmex handy in their pocket.
If the drought doesn't break soon I think we'll evolve into something like that picture.
But even though it all sounds grim, I still hate autumn. Anyway here autumn is always windy so its not very nice anyway.
If you could have personally witnessed one event in history, which one would you want to have seen?
I would want to have seen the one I witnessed today!!
The day we won the AFL Black Diamond Grand Final.
Not me personally, but Lloyd played in it, and if your children participate in a sporting event, it feels as if you've played the game yourself.
This morning I had the sick tummy. When we got there and sat down, I couldn't take a photo because my hands were shaking.
I did manage to get a shot of the bar though. Because it was pretty cool. And rowdy by the end of the day. Daz wants to hire it for a party. That top level was packed by 2pm.
And it was hot. 30 degrees. So the boys were running around for almost two hours in that heat.
So they ran out and had the pre game huddle like they always do.
The ball sat waiting for kickoff
And the mascot did... whatever mascots do. Which seemed to be run around and get chased by small children. Nice socks.
Half time came and it looked grim. We were losing 59 to 24. The coach would have been yelling, because he tends to go ballistic in that situation.
There was a brief moment of panic when I saw one of our guys fall down and I said - OH NO, HIS LEGS GONE. And poor Daz jumped up and started running off because he thought I was talking about Lloyd. Thats because Lloyd has something called myositis ossificans. That means that he has torn his thigh muscle almost in half and now it has a bone growing in it. Thats why he shouldn't have played. But they strapped him up and he did. Even though he wasn't supposed to play for three months. But as I said, he's a 19 year old young man who must make his own decisions about these things.
So when I saw this happening I was a little concerned
But it was all good. And it was pretty cool how they had that physiotherapist come and rub them all down.
And can you believe that just when the final bell went, the other team were leading by 5, and our man had just caught the ball and he had to kick the goal to win the game. No pressure on him. And he kicked it.
And they were joyous
And they recieved medals
And they sang loudly
And it was a good day.
And I had my first dose of sunburn for the summer.
And I just found this on top of my washing machine.
What's your favorite memory from the summer of '09?
Haven't had it yet.
We're only seven days into spring.
So I'll let you know in about six months.
But if I had to have a wild guess I'd say it could include the words
family
friends
fun
beaches
cocktails
THAILAND
What's one thing you can't say no to?
Lost dogs and kittens in pet shops.
I've had to ban myself from walking past pet shops. Once, within a few months we had four kittens. Big Man, Pumpy, Tossy and Marnie. Although Marnie came from the streets. Daz overheard some guys laughing about how they'd found this kitten and how they'd taken it out to the edge of town and tossed it into a paddock. So he went out there and searched for him and bought him home. We offered him to the neighbours but by the time they'd thought about it and decided they'd have him we couldn't give him up.
Then there was Carl. We stopped for breakfast one morning at Carlingford Shopping Centre and he ended up coming home with us.
Now they find me anyway. I currently feed two cats that aren't mine. There was another one we called Roger but I noticed he's living down the road now.
Lost dogs on the street seem to be happy to see me as well. And I can never just walk away from them. So I used to take them home. We had one stay for a weekend once until we found the owners. When I had the three little kids it was harder so then I just started ringing Daz and saying, there's a dog on so and so street, go get it.
Kimba is pretty soft as well when it comes to lost dogs and I think Daz actually abducts ones that aren't lost. Its not unusual to see him driving around with an unkown dog sitting up in the front seat of his truck. Because they love going for a drive don't they. Always look so happy going for a drive.
A couple of weeks ago he sent me a photo of two little dogs he had locked in his office. He'd even been to the butcher and bought them mince. They had tags with their phone number and address but no one was answering. So when it was time for Daz to come home he went around to their house, found the hole where they'd escaped and fixed it.
I think I can say no to just about anything else.
