When people think of Queensland (beautiful one day, perfect the next), they probably think beaches, coral reefs and theme parks. But there is another side to Queensland. Make sure you've got your water bottle with you.
Of course you can cross the border into New South Wales. How dry does that look. Some one had a crossing party by the look of the beer bottles lined up there. I have no idea what our tourism slogan is.
Or the good old Northern Territory. Whats their slogan. You'll never never know, if you never never go.
Thats my Nan there with her back to us in the green cardigan. So they were still travelling in their later years. These were taken in 1973 I believe.
I've been trying out a few new things.
I found this photo of Mum playing golf in the slidebox. And I wanted to practise how to create snow and it seemed like a good candidate for the job. Then the rest just happened. Ah well, it gave me a laugh anyway.
I thought this one looked pretty good. Was going for a pen and ink sketch look.
And this one is pretty cool. Anyone know where it is? Or if the takeaway is still there?
This is one of the moulin rouge girls. Love the freaky woman in disguise watching the show.
And here's another that I'm pretty fond of. I think she's lovely.
Here I am (in the middle) going off to school with my brother and sister. Not Emjay. She'd probably left school by then. We walked down the end of the road to catch the school bus. What a bloody hot awful trip that was on a summer afternoon.
At first I though these people were at the horse races but Mum tells me its a golf tournament, I think at St Andrews which is the mecca of golf. But it still looks like the races to me.
And this is my father and brother. Dad looks so young.
From a new traveller to an older one. I've been looking through Lloyds photos and I've seen a couple taken in the same places Papa took some on his travels over fifty years ago, which is nice. Will have to dig a few out later.
So here we have this glorious fellow.
And again
My dads Nan - who I believe was just as fiesty as the chief there.
Now there is a photo of papa on a camel somewhere that would go with this one but I just can't find it at the moment. They sure did get around considering it was 1957.
And a nice little boy all dressed up feeding swans. I think it's my brother and our aunt. Maybe my nephew. Of course it could be someone I've never met in my life.
ok - so here are my brother and sister fishing. It would be at dee Why I'd say, we always went for holidays there. This was when Mum went through her stage of liking big bows in small pieces of hair. It's not emjay - we have another sister.
And here is Uluru. We would have called it Ayers Rock then though.
This would be in Sydney. I love this - love how everyone dressed. Everyone dressed up to go shopping. You can see the old red and black taxis there.
I don't know where this was taken but it is another of my favourites. All that brick with the splashes of red and then the woman walks in.
A good little shop to have a poke around in
And this would be Wales. Try fitting that address on your envelope.
Been sorting.
I have a feeling this man was a local man where Nan and Papa lived. And I know I have him marked as blind man, but I don't think he actually is. I had him confused with another old timer.
Now this guy I'm fairly sure is blind. This is a pretty cool photo actually. Looks like a march or parade of some kind the way everyone is watching.
No idea where these boys are from but the little guy on the right looks like he's just had his hair combed by Mum.
And this is from a show at the moulin rouge.
This is one of my favourite of papas slides. I know I say that about all of them. But this one is special.
Thats is my nan standing on the left and with her is a lady she must have met on the cruise. And I know it looks like I just plopped them into this landscape but I didn't. And thats what I love about it.
There they are just standing there having a chat as if they've just run into each other down the main street of their hometown. They are not at all concerned with anything going on about them.
And then you have all that colourful action going on around them. And no one, not a single person is paying any attention to the two ladies or my papa who would have been over here taking the photo. They're all just acting as if back in the 1950's well dressed white women in high heels were dropping into the market every day.
Love it - everyones just doin' their thing.
