What's your favorite thing about fall?
My favourite thing about autumn is that its a long way away. Because I'm not a fan of the cooler weather.
Here, we are one month into Spring and if its anything to go by we are in for a hot dry summer.
We have been drought declared where I live for years. And lately it has been so hot, dry, dusty and windy that this is currently what I look like.
The other day my lips were so dry I couldn't open my mouth because they kept cracking in the corners. I think every person in this town keeps a tube of chap stick or carmex handy in their pocket.
If the drought doesn't break soon I think we'll evolve into something like that picture.
But even though it all sounds grim, I still hate autumn. Anyway here autumn is always windy so its not very nice anyway.
Do you have Sakatas where you live? If not, they're a small rice cracker that we eat a lot of here. You'll need to know that later.
Today I'm off to get my hearing tested.
Because I have tinnitus. You know, when you have a constant high pitched noise going on in your head, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the rest of your life, and there's no cure. And the doctor wants to see if it is affecting my hearing yet.
Its definitely affecting my mental stability. I'm pretty sure if they did some research into people who commit suicide they'd find about 98% of them had tinnitus. And the thought of living with it FOREVER just about does my head in completely.
However I was doing a bit of research on how people cope with it. One lady who has it told me yesterday, that you have to put the noise at the back of your mind. Or it'll drive you mad. So that was reassuring. One guy said he just imagines his head is full of birds flying around singing. Now that is definitely not going to work for me. That would put me in the madhouse.
So I cope with it by imagining that the nosie just means my brain is working. Kind of like a fridge, how it just hums along in the background. And I can ignore it most of the time. As long as I have other noise going on. So night time is the worst because the house is quiet and I'm really aware of the ringing. Someone told me that'll settle down.
But its not really a ringing, or a screeching. Mine is like having a head full of cicadas singing. Thats what I imagine when I'm thinking about it. A sunny day with a head full of cicadas.
So.
The other day Lizzie came home from school and told me this story about a girl in her class who had written a poem and it was titled
The Screaming Cicadas
but she had spelt it
The Screaming Sakatas
Which was pretty hilarious. And now, whenever I think about my head noise, I imagine I have a head full of screaming Sakatas. Little rice crackers just going crazy.
There has been way too much talk about vampires lately. I don't know if its from reading the Twilight series, or hearing about Emjay reading the Anita Blake series, it could be from watching True Blood, or even my old favourite Buffy. A combination of all of them I'd say.
But I have been having way too many vampire dreams lately. And even though they have all had elements of the ridiculous in them, they still freak me out. Last night I dreamt that a pack of vampires was travelling with a pack of fox terriers. By the time I woke up there was only one fox terrier left. (Watch out Chicken Little). What woke me up was some loud house creaking noises. I had to get up and open the bedroom door so I could keep an eye on the hallway, and it took me about an hour to get back to sleep.
I think I'll have to get out my little Bambi book tonight and read it before I go to sleep.
Comin' to getcha.
and here are some more tiles I've been dabbling around with
this one because I like to think I have an adventurous mind, and hope I always keep it
this one because I think way too much about things and I'm getting sick of it because my brain never stops and it gets overwhelming
and this was from a photo I took a while back and was messing about with - he was lovin' himself sick
So there I was, sitting in the car, driving along, had a nice day shopping. And I was rubbing the back of my leg, just above the knee. And I thought, hmmm, that feels a bit strange. So I had another feel, nope, that doesn't feel right, so then I had a look. And then I thought to myself
What the hell is that doing there!
And I turned to Daz and Lizzie and said
One of you could have told me I have a giant pubic hair growing out the back of my leg!!
Once you hit 40, it appears your body sprouts hair wherever the hell it feels like.
First it was the one grey, no white, bristle, that I found sprouting from my chin. I saw it one day in the car mirror. I said the same thing then - why the hell didn't someone tell me that was there?
But now this. Pubic hairs, lost, popping out in inappropriate places. Gonna have to keep an eye on that.
Getting old must be some sort of big joke, really, I mean you couldn't take it seriously. There better be a big payoff at the end.
You know how towns have those signs on the boundary. Welcome to Hellsville or You are Entering Craphole and they might state some interesting little fact, like Home of the Big Banana.
Well when we came home the other day I noticed our sign. And it has on it a picture of a blonde girl, leaning on the side of a ute, wearing a country and western style shirt and a cowboy hat.
And I'm wondering who the council is trying to promote the town to. I can only guess it's single men, under thirty with a strong interest in rodeo.
But when they turn up they'll be disappointed because I haven't actually seen girls walking around dressed like that. Only on rodeo weekend. Then they cut sick with the boots and hats.
We had the rodeo a couple of weeks ago. They have it the same weekend as the show. And it made me think of the clowns they have at the show and how I used to love playing the clowns when I was little. I was too scared to go on any of the rides but I could have shoved ping pong balls down a clowns mouth all day.
So then I did this challenge at the digital art quirks site where you had to use the photo of the mouth with the cherry tomato in it, in any way you wanted. And this is what came to mind.
