Not too long ago the police came knocking at my door. (That sounds familiar).
They said to me
Is JD here? (he works with Daz)
I said
NO (oops, I didn't shout it, my finger just hit the caps key). I said
No, why, what'd he do?
And she told me. Which I thought was a bit strange. I thought they'd like to tell him first before they blabbed it all over town.
Apparently the police had received a phone call from The Concerned Citizen to say that he was driving to work and JD had overtaken him going 130 kilometres an hour. Twice he'd done it. Different days of course.
The first thing I thought (but didn't say) was
How fast was Concerned Citizen going himself for JD to have to go 130 to get past him? And how does he know JD was going that exact speed? And how reliable can the police judge this citizen to be?
So I had on my slightly concerned, this is a bit serious face and said to them
Have you seen what JD drives?
I mean its a transit van. It looks similar to something Postman Pat might like to drive. And the back of it is loaded with gas bottles and ladders and tools. If it ever gets anywhere near 130 kilometres an hour, well I want to see it happen.
Anyway, I told them exactly where he was, because it's always good for a laugh to get the cops onto him. I think when they saw the van they were a bit dubious. Pity they didn't take him out the road and make him crank the transit up just to see how fast it would go.
Some little fucker just threw an orange at my car. It hit right in the middle of the windscreen. I was driving Lizzie to school and it just went SMACK. I was so angry. Lizzie was saying -
DO NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR, DO NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR
I turned and parked across the road from where it came but they'd bolted.
I guess these are the little fuckers that grow into the bigger fuckers that throw rocks through car windows and kill people. Don't know if that happens much overseas but young australian men seem to be fond of it. They brought in tougher penalties for rock throwing after Nicole Miller suffered a fractured skull and brain damage after a rock was thrown from an overpass and smashed through the window of a car she was travelling in.
Arseholes.
We went to the bank yesterday to see if we could get more money. We're thinking of buying another house to move the kids into. I figure thats the only way we'll get them to leave home. So you get to be in that situation where you sit in a small office and listen to some guy talking about large sums of money and long years into the future. And he draws boxes with arrows coming from them going to smaller boxes. And thats when you usually start thinking about something else, like whats on tv later. And I only almost started laughing once, when I thought to myself, wow I'm actually the responsible adult here. Then when we get outside, Daz and I look at each other and go - what the hell was he talking about!! At the moment I'd rather buy a smaller car. A few years we had to buy an enormous car as our three kids were becoming huge. Thats what teenagers are like these days, they grow like some kind of mutant creatures. But now we rarely all travel together anywhere so I'd like a smaller car. Which reminded me of these cars I found in the slidebox. These are a couple of cars we had when we were kids. I don't remember the first two. Can't believe how thin the tyres are on this one.
But I sure remember this one. Can you imagine Mum and Dad and four kids off on holidays in it. By the time we put the boat on top and the luggage in the boot it must have just about been scraping on the ground.
