It's 43 degrees celsius here today - which is about 109 fahrenheit. Just round it up to bloody hot. I probably should go out and water the tomatoes but last time I went outside I thought I might suffocate.
I was going to bake chickens for dinner tonight to have with salad but I'm cooking them now and we can have them cold. Will be too hot later to cook. Even with the aircon on the whole room ends up like an oven.
Betty and I have decided we'll stay in for the rest of the day. Except I might go and pick up Lizzie from school otherwise she'll have a fairly hot walk down a long road that has no shade.
I thought there used to be a rule where if it reached 40 we could go home from school. I don't think they have that anymore. Even though not all the rooms are airconditioned at our school.
So this is my view at the moment.
It comes with sound effects as well. Snotty snoring types of ones.
I'm still doing my photos but I always forget to post them. So to the week that was whenever it was.
This is a little bottlebrush that grows in our front yard. Its a pretty little thing. The flowers just curl out of the buds over a day or two.
Lol. This is something that I think Kimba made for me about 12 years ago. I sent them to pottery classes over one lot of school holidays and now I have all these strange pottery creations about the house. This one sits in the kitchen. Always gives me a smile.
One day I woke up, turned my calender and found this. It really wasn't enough information to know what I was meant to be doing. I can't remember what it turned out to be.
Bacon is always good.
Betty having a nanna nap
The cook at the old peoples home I volunteer at makes the most beautiful cakes. She has two lucky sons. I think Lloyd would have liked to have grown up in that kitchen.
And this was yummo. It was a strawberry/kiwi fruit salsa that we had with salmon fillets.
50 - 56
The foreshore on a lovely, I was going to say Spring morning, but its still winter. Ridiculous really, its already hot and I'm dreading summer. Except the bit when I'm in Thailand.
Me
Me again, with Lloyd - its not snowing
Creepy man who was staring at me. Like a stalker. But he had nice arms. Good for strangling small blondes I bet.
Beautiful daughter Kimba
Me again, and Lloyd again, and the cranky teenage girl who won't have her photo taken.
Betty's schnozzle. She's a funny girl. She's so used to me poking about with the camera she doesn't even move when I'm that close. At first she'd want to lick and jump and be stupid. But now she's lost interest in the whole thing.
Betty has been for her yearly checkup and was told that she was the healthiest staffy of that age the vet had ever seen.
She's coming up to 10 years old, so not ancient, but no spring chicken anymore either.
Apart from her dodgy leg she's good. When she was about four she leapt off the top of the cubby house and did a huge mash up job on her knee that required surgery and its been a problem for her ever since. Now she has arthritis in it and spends most of the time with it held up. If you have a dog with arthritis though, the vet told us to give her an aspirin a day. Just normal aspirin. He said to try it for a week and see if it helps.
He also said walking will help but thats not a problem because Daz and Betty walk all the time. I told him they should be doing a walkathon to raise money for some cause. One day a guy stopped him on the street and said
don't you get on with your missus?
yeah, why?
because you're always out walking the bloody dog.
So even though she has a few grey hairs
And worn out old paws
She's never feeling too old to play the sock game
Jem came for a sleepover last night.
We went and saw Bruno which we thought was lame and boring. And then we went out for dinner where we decided bottles of wine must be getting smaller. Because they seem to be getting easier to drink.
And when we came home, for some reason I can't remember at the moment, I was looking through jems suitcase and I said -
hey, you bought the dogs blanket
and she said
thats not a dog blanket, thats my dead mothers dressing gown
and I said
well it looks just like Bettys blanket
as you can see
Its exhausting to look at the seven day weather forecast and see every day expected to be 37 degrees (which is about 98 degrees for you guys). Lloyd says I'm getting soft because I used to say how much I loved the hot weather. Getting old more like it I'd say.
And its new years eve. How did that happen. For some reason I thought it was on thursday. We have people coming tonight and I said - I don't care how hot it is, we're sitting outside. I'm not having a bunch of little kids running around inside the house. See when your own kids become teenagers you suddenly become very intolerant of little kids. Well thats how it happened for me. I hope I start liking them a bit more before my kids have children or I won't be a very pleasant Nanna.
Of course that means everyone will end up smelling like dog. Betty smell. She sits on all the outdoor chairs. She doesn't have a special one - shares herself amongst the lot. And she's one of those dogs that always smells. Even if she was washed that morning, she smells by the afternoon. I would wash the chairs if I could but I can't because of our water restrictions. No hoses allowed. And I'm not that keen that I'm hauling a bucket around. Anyway I have to spend my time finding a cocktail recipe I want.
Tip of the day. I'm wearing one of those dresses thats made of that synthetic slippery material. Like a nightie. ANd after you've been wearing it for a while it sticks to your legs and grips you in a nasty unflattering way. But someone told me that you get a fabric softener piece of paper. She tells me you put them in the dryer with your clothes to stop static. (I don't use a dryer myself because I feel too guilty about all the environmental damage I'm doing when I do use one). But get one of these little fabric softener squares and rub it on your dress - not sure if that would be inside or outside - and it will stop it clinging. I was going to try this and I did buy a box of them for a ridiculous amount of money, but when I opened it the smell was so sweet and sickly that I didn't think I could stand to smell like that all day.
So I'll stick to my method. Which is to lick my hands and run them over the dress every now and then.
Show us your pet(s). If you don't have one, show us one you'd like to have.
Submitted by munchorz.Well anyone who reads this knows that Betty and I spend a fair bit of our time together. But you've only known her as an older lady, so I've dug out some puppy photos.
I think she's the one on top here - it looks like her face.
And here she is with her red collar on
And here she is just being cute
And here she is being naughty. That is our cat Carl. Who died last year and broke my heart. He had her fooled though. He used to lead her into all kinds of tricky situations she couldn't get out of.
And here is Carl just being cute.
And here he is just being cool. I miss him.
And here they are together. They were great mates. So this is one pet I have and one I wish I had. I posted this one before so some of you would've already seen it.
